What is a link, and why is it important?

A link is the way in which a Web page connects to another.

It is important to understand the two reasons why the links are :
  1. the first reason is to allow people who navigate our sites to have access to relevant content interesting ;
  2. the second reason is that we're going to deal with in these pages: the links are a key factor in improving the performance of our websites on search engines.

What types of links can I build?

Among the main types of links that you can create the first and most "old" method is that of reciprocal links, also called   backlinks two-way ; They are obtained by exchanging links with other sites, in short, as you understand I'm talking about the classic link exchange . Today these links now have a very low value for the search engines and are seen by Google as an obvious attempt to force the results of research.

How do the 2-way links (reciprocal links, two-way links)?

Just two webmasters agree to insert in their pages a reciprocal link: Site A places a link to site B and site B puts it to the site A. This strategy does not work even if you put the links in different pages of the 2 sites : Site A - page 2 with links to site B and site B page 1 - page 4 with links to the site on page 1. This strategy is very "unnatural" for modern search engines, and should be used only with sites very relevant in niche market, customers and / or suppliers of our company. But why should you spend your time trying to make reciprocal link exchange when there are 1000 ways to make links in a way that is much more useful for positioning on the search engines? He did not make much sense, so we will focus on backlinks 1-way (one-way links, inbound links, non-reciprocal links).
The backlinks 1-way, from now on I will refer simply as "links" or "backlinks", links are made from a web page without that there is reciprocity. In short, someone has linked our content without our website has been requested to insert links of any kind.
So that should be our goal. Why? You certainly understand more one-way links your site will receive, will become apparent on search engines.

There is also another type of backlinks. These are 3-way backlinks.

I immediately clarify, yes, it is a way to trick the search engines and get backlinks.
How does it work? Simple, page A to page B sends a link that sends a link to page C and so on, creating one-way links "driven" for all pages to promote. This practice clearly violates the terms of use of Google and is easy to find once the structure of linking is revealed. My advice is to not fall into these traps and do not adhere to such campaigns, although nowadays are very fashionable, especially in the US.

But how important backlinks for the promotion of a website?

Here's a statistic of SEOMOZ.org , a source very influential in the SEO world that lists the "estimates" of the most popular web marketers worldwide incidence of various factors that determine the ranking on search engines (google). They are assumptions, but are the average of the estimates of the most popular in the industry:
24% Credibility / authority domain
22% Link popularity of the specific page
20% Anchor text of external links
15% use the keyword on the page
7% of data traffic and click-through
6% Social graph metrics
5% Registration Data and Hosting
The links constitute 42% of the factors that affect the placement of a web page in search engines. From data on anchor text also emerges the need for a proper search of the niche market . Topic that I will discuss in the next study.
